History

Formed in the New York City noise scene by Jonathan Lancelot in 2010, personnel changes and ensemble configurations span four years with a host of live performances in the USA. Now Dr. Equalizer has come to the UK to record the third album, and formed its best ensemble yet with locally sourced London improvisers during the Open Sorcery tour last year. Dr. Equalizer’s debut album Marsrise and second album, ‘Odysseus’ are online at drequalizer.bandcamp.com

Dr. Equalizer exists to inspire creativity and invention.

In 2014 Jonathan Lancelot played London shows as Open Sorcery, a Dada noise rock trio. See opensorcery.bandcamp.com/album/awaiting-the-45-minute-latte

Lancelot’s many live shows in NYC and the wider tri-state area included an electronic free jazz performance with Trevor Dunn from Mr. Bungle. Lancelot was inspired and advised by Living Colour’s Vernon Reid and John Zorn from Tzadik Records.

In 2004, Lancelot formed Astroknotics in Washington, D.C. with Eric Gordon and released the album Reign of Jupiter, preceding and following shows in Washington D.C. H.R. from Bad Brains was honorary producer of the album and performed with Astroknotics for a few shows in Baltimore, Md. H.R. dubbed Lancelot the next Sun Ra.
See www.cdbaby.com/cd/astroknotics

Lancelot played in late 90s punk bands, numerous hardcore and metal bands in Florida, composing and playing onto tape and vinyl. He had a major hand in creating the nu-metal style with his high school band Level Nine that built the compositional foundation for band’s like Limp Biskit, Endo, and Nonpoint. Lancelot does not care much for that style today due to over use.

Since age five Lancelot was trained in Florida and classically trained on instruments not limited to saxophone, trumpet, and piano, over years exploring bass, guitar, vocals, drums, and uses electronic elements since 2000. Jon is known to track all the instruments on demos and albums. He has composed most of his life.

Technical etc

Dr Equalizer is soprano sax, bass guitar, guitar, drums and keyboards. For this, we will need to amplify al the instruments unless it is a small venue. If the venue has no backline, we will need notice to supply amplifiers for the bass, guitar, and synth, but a PA may be needed for the sax and most likely the drums depending on the space. The saxophonist will have effects pedals, so some amplification is required. Peter Jordan is handling promotions, and the band is available on any day of July as long as the arrangements are made in advance of two weeks. The band would fit in any venue that accommodates dynamic music, including gallery gigs and small festivals. We do not have a sound engineer, however if one is needed, please warn us in advance of two weeks so we can make arrangements. Expenses are welcomed but not required. Dr Equalizer can bring from 10-40 audience.

New Band Member Bios

Gary Parsons

He started his musical existence in 1983 as singer and guitarist with Gothic rock band Shadow Of Fear. In 86 he joined space rock leg-ends Vulcan Death Grip as synth noise maker. After a year of that he started on a solo career under the name of Static and released 5 albums and played very odd gigs. He shut down the project in 1995 whilst in Australia. Fast forward two years and he formed Sleeping Pictures with Marc Blackie which started off as an experimental outfit and slowly became song based. Three albums radio sessions and numerous compilation appearances followed and he has done session work as well as collaborations with other bands. He currently is keyboard player for the band Durga and likes Nepalese food and his cat Loki.

Zali Krishna

He is the veteran of a hundred descents into disputed territory.
As founder of kosmische death commandoes, The Stella Maris Drone
Orchestra; as electric sitar antihero with Raagnagrok and jazzgazing
six-string demiurge with Durga and Searchin'. His excursions on and off
the London experimental music circuit have found him prowling around the
fringes of noise and electronica under countless flags of convenience
and balkanised one-night empires. If you're offering, he'd probably like
a pint of something poncy and European.”

Jonas Golland

He’s been made aware of irony in his drumming,
maybe because he also likes playing nothing. He’s
currently the drummer for Tiger Lillies, plays with
Gardyloo SPeW (and live EP) and Psychoyogi (and
2 albums), has worked with Man From Uranus, Rude
Mechanicals, Lonesome Cowboys From Hell, Michael
Rosen & the Dulce Tones, Paradise 9, Nik Turner, Peter
Maas (Freeez) and Edwige, and collaborated to create
the band I Am Meat. Jonas slices cymbals and tubing,
makes thunder sheets, tests drumsticks of unusual
materials, and more with handyman and sonic artist
Julian Bryden.
